“Well, how are we to make friends if we ignore every stranger we pass on the street?” he said, offering a bright smile. Running a hand through his hair, Tom motioned with his chin in the direction of a small park— completely open, and mainly an open field with a playground to one side, and maybe a few trees mottled here and there. But he wanted it to be open, so she didn’t feel like he was… well. A creep. “So, what is it you do, Esmeralda? A beautiful woman such as yourself… don’t tell me you’re cooped up inside all day with some dead end job?”

Esmeralda chuckled a little, looking down at her fiddling fingers with an almost sad-seeming smile. “You make an excellent point. I guess I don’t really make friends very often.” Most of her ‘friends’ she just.. seemed to know. All the meetings had happened when she was little, and most of her first impressions weren’t so good these day. She glanced up t him to see what he was suggesting, and offered a nod in approval as they began to swerve slowly in that direction. At his question, her gaze flickered towards him once. “again, thank you,” she chuckled casually, before shrugging. “I’m an actress - aspiring, anyway. The field hasn’t been good to me thus far.”
‘Cause when I’m with him I am thinking of you
Thinking of you, what you would do
If you were the one who was spending the night
Oh, I wish that I was looking into your, your eyes
Looking into your eyes, looking into your eyes
Thinking of You - Katy Perry AU: Part 3/4.
You’re the best, and yes, I do regret
How I could let mysel let you go
Now, now the lesson’s learned
I touched it, I was burned
Oh, I think you should know.

“Don’t let me stop you,” he insisted, waiting a moment or two to watch her as she began to undress before starting to take his own clothes off. As he did so, a thought popped into his head that he couldn’t seem to shake. “Hey, why was I the person that you called up? I mean, you have friends right? So why me?” He slid his pants off his legs, kicking them off to the side.
Esmeralda rolled her eyes at him wordlessly, pushing the edge of her pants down and sliding them down her legs, before shamelessly tossing them off, along with her shirt. She was in the middle of deciding which piece of underwear she wanted off first when he spoke up, and she glanced at him. His question made her laugh, and she didn’t try to mask it. “Most of my friends are girls who I keep around to keep me in line. They don’t really do this kind of thing. Also, did you not read the text? I believe it said, ‘You have a nice body,’ so.”
He listened to her talk about this guy, not sure why he was feeling slightly jealous about it. Maybe it was because he had never had a father-like figure before. Or maybe it was because he simply didn’t have all that many people he was close to. “Sounds cool,” he said, replying in a vague way as he wasn’t sure what else to say.
He picked up his glass again, not drinking, but simply swirling the liquid around watching the ice as it melted. “Not up for being the damsel in distress tonight, then? Guess I’ll just have to find someone else to save,” he teased.
Esmeralda didn’t notice that Flynn was a little off-put, and if she did she wasn’t about to show it. She didn’t want to talk about Clopin either, so she let his comment slide without complaint. “I guess so, but like I said, not the kind of person I’d like spending my night with.”

Esmeralda watched his eyes as Flynn watched the glass. She didn’t speak for a moment, trying to formulate the correct response to get the reactions she wanted, or the ones she could play off the best. “Not much of a ‘damsel in distress’ girl,” she sighed slowly, “But I can always pretend, for your sake.” It wasn’t the response she had wanted to give, and hated herself for it. He was so hard to talk to sometimes! “But, then again, I guess it depends on what exactly you want to save.”
“Clopin?” Flynn didn’t know who that was, or even if it was a man or woman. But they weren’t there anymore, so he guessed it really made no difference. The bartender came back with his drink then, and Flynn took a large swig of the alcohol. “Looks like I saved you from being all alone then.”
“Clopin. A friend of mine. I have those.”

Esmeralda smiled gratefully at the bartender who left the duo alone, before looking back at Flynn. “Well, more or less like my dad, I guess. Big brother kind of thing, going on there. But he sometimes thinks of me as a little girl and, let’s face it, I’m not so little. Not much of his cherie anymore, either.” She played with her straw, before flashing him a tiny half-smirk. “If I really wanted to be with someone, I could get them. I hardly need saving.” Of course, she appreciated he was here, but she had to pull his leg a little.
“Esmeralda.”
“Oh. Flynn. Hey. What’s up? I was just-“
“I’ve met someone. It’s time for us to.. you know, not be us.”
“…”
“It’s cool though, no hard feelings, right?”
“…None.”

He wasn’t surprised at all when her eyebrows knitted together slightly in confusion. He was confused, himself. After all, he didn’t usually refrain from saying things just because it might hurt their feelings and it happened to be their birthday. “Well, I’m glad I could help,” he grinned, brown eyes lighting with amusement.
The bartender walked over then, realizing that he had another customer. Flynn ordered himself a drink, and the man walked off again to get it for him.
“So,” he said, “am I the only one to show?”
Esmeralda smiled at him a little, lifting her drink to her lips and trying to mask it, in vain. She simply nodded and held back a playful eyeroll, glancing away as the bartender tended to Flynn and thinking quickly as to what she was supposed to say. After all, he had implied birthday sex, which was a topic she wanted to clear up, not that they were.. alright. But, that was water she wasn’t ready to tread yet.

“Uh, no, actually. I mean, Clopin was here a little bit ago, but he had something to do. But physically it was just you too. I got one card in the mail, and I haven’t heard back from anyone else. Which is fine.” She shrugged a little.
